Etobicoke West Roots & Shoots takes action!

(Continued)

...The garage sale was set up at 8:00 AM and wrapped up at 1 PM. We raised $167.05 plus an additional $26.27 in coins for the Myanmar and Sichuan Province disasters.  Information about JGI Canada and its many programs were distributed while songs from Western Africa greeted each customer.

After reconvening, EWRS realized our funds would allow us to become Chimp Guardians as this still allows the three sanctuaries run by JGI in Africa to provide the necessary care and protection to chimpanzee orphans of the illegal bushmeat trade.  As a result, EWRS has decided to adopt Gregoire, the oldest living chimpanzee in captivity who was rescued in 1997 from the Congo-Brazzaville Zoo.  Furthermore, one of my life aspirations is to visit at least one of the three JGI sanctuaries and to witness the dedicated and effective work in action.

The chimpanzee is definied as the following: "An African ape (Anthropithecus troglodytes or Troglodytes niger) which approaches more nearly to man, in most respects, than any other ape". Wouldn’t this imply that the chimpanzee is our relative and therefore should be treated as such?
