3. Information Collected by JGI
JGI recognizes the importance of protecting your personal information; it gathers personal information when voluntarily submitted by you online. When we refer to “personal information” we mean any information about an identifiable individual, whether it concerns your email address, where you live, your credit card or bank account information where applicable. If you make a donation, personal information will be collected from you in order to process that donation and provide you with a charitable receipt. If you purchase any products from our website, personal information will be collected to process your request, and deliver the goods. If you make an online request for information, personal information will be collected from you in order to reply.
JGI may use personal information collected from you online to send you information about new fundraising campaigns or initiatives, or updates about its public education and advocacy efforts. We may also send you the JGI newsletter, service announcements about the site and invite you to participate in online surveys and contests. If you elect not to receive these materials, we will not send them to you. Please let us know if you do not wish to receive the information by advising us at email@example.com.

In certain instances, we would like to share the comments and stories we receive by posting this information on our website. JGI will not post information in any way that specifically identifies the sender of that information unless the sender approves it. Nowhere on our website will we post personally identifiable information about minors without first receiving the express written consent of their parent or guardian.

However, we direct that those companies may only use such personal information for the purpose of performing their roles and may not use it for any other purpose. In these cases, when information is shared, JGI will demand reasonable assurance that the third parties will protect your information in conformity with our privacy practices.

In order to participate in the Partnerships in Understanding (PIU) correspondence exchange under the Roots & Shoots program, eligible Roots & Shoots groups need to provide a contact name, physical mailing and e-mail addresses, telephone number(s), fax number (if possible), an age bracket and gender ratio. Only JGI Canada staff and authorised volunteers have access to this personal information, in order to assign groups to one another. The partner groups receive each other's contact information. JGI Canada takes reasonable steps to ensure that all third parties protect sensitive information that have been provided.
JGI Canada securely keeps all Roots & Shoots group information electronically and in hardcopy files; these are archived on a yearly basis. The group's personal information is only disposed of upon the group's request or based on group inactivity. If you no longer want to be a part of the PIU program, please e-mail us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we will remove your group from our database.
