October 2, 2025 A Note from Our CEO: Remembering Dr. Jane Goodall Photo: Katherine Holland Dear Friend, I’m reaching out with profound sadness – and with gratitude for a life well lived. As you may have seen, Dr. Jane Goodall has passed away at the age of 91. We’ve lost our founder, the planet’s fiercest advocate, and the woman who would never let us settle for good enough. This hurts. It hurts in the way that only losing someone incredible – someone irreplaceable – can hurt. Jane would tell you that’s exactly as it should be. Because when you lose someone who mattered, you feel it. And Jane mattered. As we process this loss, I want to make sure you know how much you meant to Jane. Jane saw you as her partner in stubborn optimism. You are the one who keeps showing up even when the news is grim, who keeps believing even when progress feels impossible. She counted on you because you proved, year after year, that caring is an act of strength and hope is a belief in our resilience. You shared her refusal to give up, and that meant the world to her. It means the world to our team, too. We have been inundated with heartfelt messages, and we are so grateful for your kindness and your support – and your determination to carry Jane’s mission forward. Jane built the Institute to outlast her. She built it with intention, with tenacity, and with you. We have important work to do, and Jane picked the right people to do it with. I believe in our collective strength. I believe she was right to count on us. Let’s honour her in the best way we can – by coming together and building a world where animals, people, and the environment can all thrive. Jane spent her life showing us the wonder in all living things – and in the way we’re all connected to one another. She believed we can live in harmony with nature, but only if each of us does our part. In the coming weeks, we’ll reach out with more information on how we can gather and honour Jane’s extraordinary legacy together. There will be time to mourn, to remember, to celebrate, and to chart the path forward for the work that Jane loved so fiercely. For now, we wanted you to know that we’re thinking of you. We’re in this together. If you are interested in sharing a personal remembrance of Jane and continuing her legacy for future generations, you can do so at JaneGoodall.ca/RememberingJane. You can also contribute to continuing her vital work by making a donation.
