Long before people around the world knew her name, Jane Goodall grabbed her boots and set out for the Gombe forest — keen to conduct research and observe the chimpanzees who had made those trees home.

She trudged through rain and wind, hiking up to the peak — day after day, week after week — simply driven by her curiosity and her determination.

On these daily hikes, she was able to earn the trust of these chimpanzees. And with each step she took, she observed our closest animal relatives — more than anyone else ever had — and made discoveries that changed science forever.

This is what inspired the new Jane Goodall Hike for Hope, which takes place across Canada on October 3rd and 4th. With the Hike for Hope, you can walk in her footsteps — not through the forests of Tanzania, but in your very own community — and carry her legacy forward.

Every step you take gets us closer to protecting the animals, people, and environment that Dr. Jane devoted herself to. She showed us that the most extraordinary discoveries begin with a single step, and now, when you head out for your own hike this October, you have an opportunity to make your very own discoveries.

Wherever you are — whether you’re located downtown in an urban jungle, out in the country, or somewhere in between — we want you to get outdoors and explore the natural beauty of the world around you. Around all of us.
