The Democratic Republic of Congo is one of the few countries that still supports wild chimpanzees and gorillas. Working in this landscape, JGI Canada is implementing an integrated approach to conservation through community health initiatives. Because humans and chimps are so similar genetically, they can contract the same diseases and infections. With a bike, healthcare workers can deliver desperately needed medical treatment to people living in remote areas on the understanding that when people are healthy so are chimps.
$130 buys a bike for a healthcare worker.
