Canada Programs A.P.E. Fund Funding for high-needs Roots & Shoots projects What is A.P.E. Fund? A.P.E. Fund stands for animals, people, and the environment. It’s a granting program that helps fund high-needs Roots & Shoots projects. Roots & Shoots members can apply for up to $1,000 to support the implementation of their projects in their communities. A.P.E. Fund is made possible by our generous partners and supporters. Applications are closed for this year and will reopen November 2023. You are eligible to apply if: You’re a member of Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots Canada. Learn more here! Your project must take place in Canada. If you are from a different country please contact your local Roots & Shoots group. Your project and final report will be completed by June 15th 2023. Your project addresses the convergence of 3 crises: Biodiversity loss (Animals), Environmental Inequity (People) and Climate Change (Environment). Discover Resources Current Projects Biodiversity Loss (Animals), Climate Change (Environment), Environmental Inequity (People) Battlefords Family Health Centre Healthy Living Land Based Learning Community Garden BFHC has actively sought ways to address the Calls to Action our country is facing. The Garden Project is designed to increase nutritious food available to all people, engage in active living while incorporating intergenerational interactions, social participation and community supports. Biodiversity Loss (Animals), Climate Change (Environment), Environmental Inequity (People) Boreal Rangers Medicine Gardens Youth and Elders will come together to create gardens with the four sacred medicines as well as native plant species of the area. This multigenerational effort will educate the youth about traditional ways, work to improve biodiversity and leave lasting education for the community. Biodiversity Loss (Animals), Climate Change (Environment) Bring back the Bees Students will beautify school grounds and the city by planting plants that attract bees (and butterflies). They will partner with a local organaization to arrange a free bus to take us to the planting sites. They will plant trees/shrubs that will grow for years to come and rely on local experts for support. Biodiversity Loss (Animals) Build for Bees The goal of this project is to build a bee friendly environment and teach the students about the importance of the work of the bees. They will make homes, plant flowers and install a water drinking area. Biodiversity Loss (Animals), Environmental Inequity (People) Coming Together This project would be an opportunity for students to come together with the local Blackfoot community to develop a better understanding of Indigenous Ways of Knowing as well as developing a better understanding of the local environment in which we live. Environmental Inequity (People) Community Building and Powwow Revitalization Project The goal of this project is to have LSHS students work alongside Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and First Nation community members participating in cultural learning and Powwow ground revitalization at Pays Plat FN Powwow grounds. Students will learn about Truth and Reconciliation, Traditional Plant use/medicines. Climate Change (Environment), Environmental Inequity (People) Community Climate Hub The Community Climate Hub was created as a central database for local climate policies/plans, local climate stories and a detailed list of ways to take climate action in the Region of Peel. The Hub aims to effectively engage youth in local politics & increase local climate literacy in our community. Biodiversity Loss (Animals) Egikinoomaagaasjik gitigaanwaa Students will build and tend to a garden that will host space to teach the importance of biodiversity through Indigenous Perspectives. By creating the garden at the school, they hope to engage and educate the entire school population, and inspire them to create more gardens in the community. Biodiversity Loss (Animals), Climate Change (Environment), Environmental Inequity (People) Elsipogtog School Guardians of the Planet Grade 5 Students at Elsipogtog School are coming together to build the Guardians of the Planet Leadership Team to address the environmental concerns of our school community.
