A.P.E. Fund Indigenous Awareness Initiative Stouffville, Ontario This project will provide tools to non-Indigenous youth in understanding and taking action towards the journey of reconciliation. It will allow youth consider climate change, loss of biodiversity, and environmental inequity through Indigenous lenses and wisdom, and reflect on their responses. This will be place close to the first nation garden build last year. The students will plant small willow trees. The tall branches will be bent and shaped into a shelter looking like a longhouse. The idea is to build a longhouse next to the first nation garden that the students build last year and the pine tree (the peace tree of the Iroquoiens) that was planted. View project Biodiversity Loss (Animals), Environmental Inequity (People) Indigenous Medicine Wheel Garden The Indigenous Medicine Wheel Garden project provides a way of connecting to Indigenous knowledge and stewardship. We hope to deepen the students’, and our communities, understanding of our local ecosystem, its history, biodiversity and how to be an environmental steward. View project Biodiversity Loss (Animals), Climate Change (Environment) Save the ocean from plastic pollution: Our grade 3 class will be planning ways to both reduce plastic use in our classroom and school community. Along with finding creating ways that plastic can be reused in purposeful ways. Our grade 3 class discovered that there are many different ways to help protect our oceans. We decided to choose to focus on one area that can be purposefully done in our own class and school community, which is specific plans to encourage less plastic and purposefully reuse plastic.
