The Jane Goodall Institute of Canada amplifies and scales community-led actions to create a world where animals, people, and the environment thrive together. We bridge science with traditional wisdom, support community initiatives, and empower young environmental leaders across Canada and chimpanzee ranges of Africa.

Rooted in Dr. Jane Goodall’s transformative insight that you cannot save wildlife without improving the lives of people who share their habitat – a truth long held by Indigenous Peoples worldwide – we partner with communities leading conservation on their own lands. And rooted in Dr. Jane Goodall’s message of hope through action, we inspire everyone to embrace their individual power to make a difference.

Mission, Vision, and Purpose

Mission

Create an informed and compassionate multitude who will help build a better world for people, other animals, and our shared environment.

Vision

A healthy planet where people make compassionate choices to live sustainably and in harmony with each other, the environment, and other animals.

Purpose

Amplify and scale community-led actions to create a world where animals, people, and the environment thrive together.

Our Mission in Action

Action in Canada

Our youth leadership program, Roots & Shoots, is supporting a generation of conservation leaders. And we work with Indigenous communities and partners to bring environmental equity to the centre of everything we do.

Action in Africa

In countries across Africa, we work to rescue chimpanzees and protect their habitat. Importantly, we also work with local communities on initiatives that protect and support animals, people, and the environment.

Actions for All

Our national and global campaigns invite everyone to get inspired and take action on important global issues like illegal wildlife trafficking. And our resources give everyone important tools and knowledge to make a difference every day.
